Fine weather.

For Gisborne:
Showers dying out this morning, and becoming fine this afternoon.

For Marlborough, Nelson and Canterbury:
Fine weather.

For Buller and Westland:
Becoming cloudy, and drizzle patches developing in Westland.

For Fiordland:
Showers about the fiords, turning to rain this evening.

For Otago and Southland:
Mostly cloudy and dry, but in Southland some brief light rain this morning, and again this evening.

At the Chatham Islands:
Cloudy periods, and a few light showers.


 Long Range Forecast
25 September 2004, 13:20

Monday:
North Island, showers developing in the north and west possibly turning to rain south of about Waikato, mainly fine in the east. South Island, rain spreading to most places but remaining dry in eastern Marlborough and Canterbury.

Tuesday:
North Island, rain or showers for most places, cold southerlies bringing late rain along the east coast reaching Gisborne at night. South Island, rain becoming widespread, with snow to low levels in the east, but becoming fine in the west and the far south by evening.

Wednesday:
North Island, any remaining showers, mainly in the south and west clearing, then fine. South Island, remaining coastal showers north of Banks Peninsula clearing, then fine everywhere, but late rain developing in the southwest.

The Chatham Islands:
Northwesterly winds developing early Monday and becoming cloudy. Rain developing on Tuesday, and a late cold southerly change. Cold southerlies and showers at first on Wednesday, then mainly fine.

Wellington's hottest September day for at least 137 years occurred at Kelburn, with a maximum temperature of 21.1 degrees. In cloud-free skies, a moderate fohn (warming) wind effect occurred in the lee of the North Island ranges. Meanwhile, heavy rain flooded low lying areas of Rotorua and three houses were cut off.
